We are excited to share that the province has significantly increased its commitment to Kentville, moving from a small-scale 11-unit plan to a 30-unit development that will provide safe, stable homes for nearly 100 of our neighbours.
The Featured News: Announcement: New Public Housing for Kentville Source: Province of Nova Scotia (Department of Housing and Municipal Affairs)

The Project Breakdown:
Total Units: 30 apartments (5 one-bedroom, 25 two-bedroom).
Target Residents: Primarily seniors and families.
Affordability: Rent is capped at 30% of household income.
Modern Features: Energy-efficient modular construction with 10 fully accessible units.
New Location: Justice Way (chosen for its size and proximity to essential services).
Why This Project is Different: By using modular construction (built by Eastcut in Trenton, NS), the province is able to move faster than traditional building methods. This is crucial because Kentville has a growing waitlist, and the move to Justice Way shows a willingness to scale up solutions rather than settling for the minimum.
The Committee’s View: This announcement is a direct answer to the advocacy work being done in our community. Seeing 25 two-bedroom units included is particularly important, as it provides a pathway for families who have been struggling to find affordable space in the private market.
